Student Projects

Corridor Manchester regularly works with students (individuals and groups), and sometimes with their tutors, to help them with their projects - many of which are based within Corridor Manchester, which has been coined a 'testbed'.

A few examples of the work resulting from our engagement with students can be found below:

Cities@Manchester student project to 'characterise' the area

A post-doctoral researcher working with the Cities@Manchester research group developed a protocol for a study to provide the basis for benchmarking work to be undertaken through fieldwork in advance of the Bus Priority Scheme.
The study looked at the characterisation of the use of public space around Oxford Road, and discussions  between the student with colleagues from Manchester Met and The University of Manchester took place with regard to the operation of fieldwork. The intention is that the study will continue for a period of five years from 2015, repeated twice per year. Participant observations and questionnaires will give a snapshot of the usage of Oxford Road, and the results will be useful for Corridor Manchester.

Pedestrian flows around Oxford Road

A team of postgraduate students in Planning & Urban Regeneration at  The University of Manchester are undertaking a client project for the Transport & Estates Group looking at pedestrian routes entitled “The Permeable Campus: Understanding the Circulation and Flow of Pedestrians”.
The fieldwork for the longitudinal study to generate a benchmark for the characterisation study of Oxford Road has taken place utilising fixed monitoring cameras during July and September, prior to the works commencing. Subsequent yearly monitoring will take place and the results analysed through Cities@Manchester student projects.
